Program: Living with Bears in Western North
Carolina
Mike Carraway, Wildlife Biologist with the NC Wildlife
Resources Commission, will present a program which covers the history of bear populations
and bear management in western North Carolina, including population dynamics,
range expansion, population monitoring and management, and the implications of
increasing bear populations in conjunction with an increasing human population
and development in bear habitat. The program also will provide recommendations
for people who live in or near bear habitat to reduce conflicts with bears and
educational information on how to behave when humans encounter bears.
