BGA Annual Meeting

Question 1:

Answer:  Deer

Question 3:  
The Botanical Gardens is truly a labor of love.  Hundreds of volunteers contributed countless hours to create a sanctuary for native plants out of an abandoned cow pasture.  Name 5 volunteers who played an important role in the first 25 years of the Garden's history.

An herbaceous plant is one produced by seed whose stem withers away to the ground after each season’s growth, as opposed to a woody tree or shrub whose stem lives from year to year. Which is the first herbaceous plant to bloom in the Gardens each year? Circle the correct answer. Answer:  First to bloom:  Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus);  Last to bloom:  Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana)

Question 2: 
In 1967, a structure was added to the Gardens to honor one of the founders. The structure is meant to be representative of those used in the 18th and 19th centuries by early settlers to keep foods like butter, eggs, meat and milk cool and away from predators. What is this structure?
